Terms of Service

These terms apply to your purchase and use of Paper Formatter (the "Service"). They are written in plain English and intentionally short. Please read them before purchasing.

1. What you're buying

For $99 USD, you receive one PIN granting access to three full formatting runs and three structural reviews through the Service. Each formatting run produces a reformatted .docx, a separate anonymized .docx for double-blind review, and a copy-editing report (HTML and Word). Each structural review produces a .docx of advisory findings on a draft (argument arc, claim-evidence, ordering, transitions). The intended use is one manuscript across revisions.

Formatting runs and structural reviews are metered separately, each capped at three per PIN, and enforced; the Service does not separately verify that they are of the same manuscript. Unused runs and reviews are tied to the PIN and are not refundable.

2. What the Service does and doesn't do

The Service formats your manuscript to match a journal's style guide and produces a structured report of changes made and items still requiring your input. It does not:

• Rewrite your prose, generate analysis, or produce new content;
• Guarantee acceptance by any journal;
• Substitute for substantive peer review or content editing;
• Detect every formatting issue or typo a human reviewer might catch.

Output should be reviewed by you before submission. The Service is a tool, not an editor of record.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for:

• Manuscripts you have the right to submit for publication;
• Content that does not violate publisher embargoes or NDAs you are bound by (you are responsible for that determination);
• Lawful purposes consistent with academic and professional norms.

You agree not to share, resell, or redistribute your PIN. The PIN is for your individual use across your runs and reviews.

4. Refunds

No refunds are issued once a PIN has been delivered. Before purchasing, please review the sample report and screenshots, the FAQ, and the privacy statement to confirm the Service fits your needs.

Exception: if a technical fault on our side prevents you from receiving any usable output across all three runs, contact [email protected] within seven days of purchase and we will issue a full refund or replacement PIN at our discretion.

5. Privacy and data handling

The full privacy statement is at paperready.app/privacy and forms part of these terms. Key points:

• Your manuscript text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing, after author-identifier scrubbing.
• Output files exist only for your browser session and are deleted when the session ends.
• Your email is stored against your PIN for account management and is not shared.

6. The Service is provided as-is

The Service produces a reformatted manuscript and a structured copy-editing report — a tool to accelerate your submission, not a substitute for your own review. Review the output before submitting your paper.

7. What we'll cover if something goes wrong

Our financial responsibility for any issue with the Service is capped at the $99 USD you paid for the PIN. Outcomes downstream of the Service — a journal's editorial decisions, your submission timing, peer-review reception — sit outside that cap.

8. Service availability

We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uptime. The Service depends on third-party providers (Anthropic, Posit/shinyapps.io, Cloudflare, Google, Stripe) any of which may experience outages. PINs remain valid for 365 days from purchase. Unused runs and reviews after 365 days are forfeited. To extend, pay $99 with the same email to add 3 runs and 3 reviews and reset the 365-day window from the top-up date.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. Disputes will be heard in the courts of Ontario.
